Park Information:
Riverwalk Park, located along the Holston River, is connected to the Kingsport Greenbelt trail system. It is the current location of the Industry Drive Trailhead.
The BlueCross Foundation is providing $6.5 million for the project and an additional $1.3 million for a maintenance fund.
“Today is a really special day. It’s a milestone for Kingsport and a milestone for Blue Cross,” said Chelsea Johnson, director of the Blue Cross Foundation. “Our foundation is investing about $7.8 million in this community to bring an amazing community park here.”
Jonson said the park will have a pickleball court, a splash pad and a fitness area among other things.
“There’s gonna be water access to the river, which is unique, it’s the first time we’ve had a park like that,” Johnson said.
Kingsport Mayor Paul Montgomery thanked Johnson and the Blue Cross Blue Shield team for helping make the project happen. Other local officials who attended the groundbreaking included Kingsport City Manager Chris McCartt; Vice Mayor Darrell Duncan; and Kingsport Aldermen Morris Baker, James Phillips and Colette George.
Johnson said the improvements at the park should be completed by spring of 2026.
