Kingsport City Schools – Playgrounds

Kingsport City Schools has playgrounds located at several school sites. 

Playgrounds are located at the following schools:

  • Abraham Lincoln Elementary (1000 Summer Street)
  • Andrew Johnson Elementary (1001 Ormond Drive)
  • Andrew Jackson Elementary (600 Jackson Street)
  • George Washington Elementary (1100 Bellingham Drive)
  • Theodore Roosevelt Elementary (1051 Lake Street)
  • Thomas Jefferson Elementary (2216 Westmoreland Avenue)
  • John F. Kennedy Elementary (1500 Woodland Avenue)
  • John Adams Elementary (2727 Edinburgh Channel Road)

Rotherwood Park – Playgrounds

Rotherwood Park is a 1.25 acre neighborhood park with many recreation components.

The Park features include:

A children’s playground for all ages. Barbecue grills, a half court basketball area, open green space, 3 picnic shelters, and an unpaved walking trail are also available at the park.

Rotherwood Park is open dawn to dark, except when scheduled for events.

J. Fred Johnson Park – Playgrounds

J. Fred Johnson Park is a 6 acre community park. This park was the first city park created in Kingsport, Tennessee.

The Park features include:

A few pieces of playground equipment for ages 3-6 years. Park benches, picnic tables, and the Veterans Memorial are also available at the park.

Hammond Park – Playgrounds

Hammond Park is a .9 acre neighborhood park, located in a Historic district, with many recreation components.

The Park features include:

A small children’s playground for all ages. Park benches, a picnic table and open green space are also available at the park.

Domtar Park – Playgrounds

Domtar Park is a multi-purpose community park located on Long Island of the Holston River.  Long Island has historic significance as a site where peaceful Indian gatherings were held.  The Cherokee Nation owns property on Long Island, which is commemorated by a stone marker.  

The Park features include:

A large fitness based playground area under a full shade canopy.  The playground, suitable for ages 6-12 years of age, is located on artificial turf ground safe materials and has a baseball theme. Picnic table space is adjacent to the playground.

2 – 13′ x 17′ climate controlled meeting rooms, 8 baseball/softball fields, an 11′ x 18′ boat access ramp, full service concessions (operated by Kingsport Parks and Recreation), 2 lighted flagpoles, lighted parking lots, a 3,315 linear foot paved walking trail, picnic tables with umbrellas, ornamental landscaping, restrooms and a sand volleyball court are also available at the park.

Domtar Park is open dawn to dark, except when scheduled for events and is a tobacco free facility.

Dale Street Park is a .13 acre neighborhood park with many recreation components.

The Park features include:

A fenced children’s playground, for all ages. Seating and a picnic table are also available at the park.

Cloud Park – Playgrounds

Cloud Park is a 7 acre park with many recreation components.

The Park features include:

A fenced playground area suitable for ages 6-12 years. Seating is available inside the fenced area. A bicycle air pump, a bicycle rack, a concrete basketball court, 4 picnic shelters, picnic space, restrooms and a water fountain are also available at the park. The Kingsport Greenbelt and Scott Adams Skate Park are adjacent to Cloud Park.

Cloud Park is open dawn to dark, except when scheduled for events.

Borden Park – Playgrounds

Borden Park is a 17 acre neighborhood park with many recreation components.

The Park features include: 

Multiple playground areas for children of all ages. An arboretum, an asphalt basketball court, barbecue grills, a community building, an 18-hole disc golf course, 6 lighted tennis courts, outdoor restrooms and/or port-o-lets, park benches, a paved walking trail and 6 picnic shelters are also available at the park.

Borden Park is open daily dawn to dark, except when scheduled for events.

Preston Forest Park – Playgrounds

Preston Forest Park is a 3 acre neighborhood park with many recreation components.

The Park features include:

A children’s playground for ages 6-12 years and a separate multi station swing set. An asphalt basketball court, a backstop for baseball/softball, open green space, an outdoor fire grill, park benches, a 390 sq. ft. pavilion, a small parking area, picnic tables, soccer goals and a water fountain are also available at the park.

Rock Springs Park is a 4 acre neighborhood park with various recreation components.  The park is located at a former Sullivan county elementary school site.

The Park features include:

A fitness-based children’s playground for ages 6-12. Horseshoe pits, open green space, park benches, small parking lot, a pavilion and picnic tables are also available at the park.

Riverview Park is a 9 acre neighborhood park with many recreation components.

The Park features include:

Multiple playground areas for all ages. An asphalt basketball court, barbecue grills, lighted open green space, park benches, 2 picnic shelters, a Splash Pad, 2 lighted tennis courts and a water fountain are also available at the park.

Boatyard Riverfront Park is a 19 acre community park located adjacent to the South fork of the Holston River.

The Park features include: 

A multi station children’s playground for all ages.  Shaded park bench seating is available near the playground equipment. Access to the Kingsport Greenbelt, barbecue grills, bicycle racks, 2 boat ramps, a children’s playground, fishing piers, a flatboat replica, historic markers, park benches, two 42′ x 26′ picnic shelters with picnic tables, picnic tables, public restrooms and/or portolets (off season), a swinging bridge connecting to Long Island and water fountains are also available at the park.

Fishing is allowed until 10:30 p.m. Fishing license is required.
